Aaron Harmonson got Homecoming night for his Jacksboro Tigers off on the right foot Friday.

The senior recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff and his teammates took it from there, using a 677-yard offensive performance and scoring on all six first half possessions to take a comfortable halftime lead and roll to a 58-29 win over the Castleberry Lions.

Harmonson’s recovery game the Tigers (2-1) the ball at the Lion 27. Five plays later, Trey Laake went up the gut untouched to pay dirt and a 7-0 lead barely two minutes into the fray.

Jacksboro’s defense held tough on the ensuing Castleberry drive, using a pair of Randall Hamilton sacks inside Tiger territory to force a turnover on downs. Jacksboro went 66 yards in four plays with Landon Davenport’s 14- yard reception of a Jordan Yount pass and a 29-yard Davenport run to set up Edwin Salazar’s 3-yard scoring run for a 14-0 lead.

Jacksboro’s other first half scores (Paul Shackelford’s one-yard run, another Salazar run, a 13- yard strike from Yount to Rylan Chalmers and a 18-yard Davenport run put the Tigers up 39-7 at the half. Jacksboro put up 394 yards in the first two quarters while holding the Lions to just 100.

To put that in perspective, Castleberry had 490 yards in a 49-35 loss to Pilot Point in its season opener. After a Castleberry fumble recovery on Jacksboro’s initial second half drive, Castleberry showed its explosive offense with quarterback Anthony Valdez finding Lonnie Adams with a 74-yard scoring strike.

Jacksboro showed a bit of a quick strike of fense of its own, Baylor Laake’s long run gave the Tigers a 1st-and-goal at the nine. Yount and Davenport combined on the next play to culminate a 38-second scoring drive.

The squads traded TDs for the rest of the frame, Davenport scoring from 14 yards out late in the third capping a 156-yard rushing, 46- yard receiving, three TD evening.

Baylor Laake added another 136 steps on the ground. Yount, who closed the scoring with an 11-yard run for the only fourth quarter scoring, also threw for 112 yards on 8-15 passing.

Jacksboro now spends more than a month on the road with games at Wichita Falls City View Sept. 18, playing Wellington in Vernon Sept. 25 and Merkel Oct. 9 in the District 5-3A Division II opener.

Jacksboro returns home Oct. 16 to face another set of Lions in Dublin.
