Tigerettes sweep past Nocona, 12-1

Wed, 04/21/2021 - 5:00 am

BOWIE – This is getting to be old hat.

For the second time this year, Jacksboro’s softballers did battle with Nocona here at Lady Rabbit Field because of heavy rains at their fields. The first one easily went the way of Jacksboro, which posted a 19-0 win.

This one didn’t have quite the offense but the result was the same as Jacksboro continued down the rematch path with Holliday for a district title with a 12-1 victory over the Lady Indians.

Jacksboro is 9-1 in District 7-3A and 23-6 overall while Nocona remains winless in the loop at 0-10.

The visitors got out to a 1-0 lead n the first on a leadoff double and a pair of groundouts off Tigerette pitcher Avery Bennett. Nocona would get two more runners to second base and had a nifty pickoff from Jacksboro catcher Payton Nail to first baseman Teagan Reynolds to keep another threat from becoming fruitful.

Jacksboro took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the first, as the Tigerettes scored in four of the five innings. Kylie Tullous opened with a one-out single while Rylee Mathis was hit by a pitch. A passed ball and a Reynolds single brought the pair home.

A four-run second began with a Jaci Gann single. Two-out walks to Hadlee Richardson and Tullous loaded the sacks.

Alex Holman cleared the sacks with Mathis bringing home Holman for a 6-1 lead. A walk to Reynolds and Destany Valles being hit by a pitch again loaded the sacks but a strikeout ended the threat.

McKenna McAnear opened the third by beating out an infield single, stealing second and scoring on a groundout. Tullous beat out an infield single and scored on a double by Holman for an 8-1 lead. A Mathis single plated Holman while Mathis came home on a shortstop’s miscue which brought Reynolds aboard.

In the decisive fifth Holman drew a leadoff walk with courtesy runner Charlie Pharriss swapping second. Oneout walks to Reynolds and Valles filled the pond with Gann delivering the knockout blow with a double to right center to end the game on mercy rule.

Jacksboro traveled to Breckenridge Monday night but will host Henrietta for Senior Night Friday.
