Tigerettes stave off Archer City in five games

Wed, 09/02/2020 - 5:00 am

After a rollercoaster of up and down games to start the season, Jacksboro’s varsity volleyballers may have found a way to right the ship:

Get down by a large deficit and then fight their way back.

Twice in their five game marathon with Archer City Aug. 25, the Tigerettes rebounded from a five-point deficit and wound up taking the game twice. After a disastrous performance in their prior match vs. Paradise, Jacksboro rebounded with a 19-25, 25-22, 25-20, 15-25, 15-8 win over the visiting Lady Cats at Tiger Gym.

Jacksboro goes to 5-3 on the campaign.

The Tigerettes fell in a 7-14 hole in game one before serving from Lilli Gonzales and front court work from fellow seniors Alex Holman and Rhett Rollans cut the deficit to 13-14. Jacksboro would pick up just two serving points the rest of the way from Hadlee Richardson and Tegan Reynolds.

Archer City raced out to a 14-4 lead in game two before the first comeback commenced. Harlee Richardson rolled off three points. Gonzales served up two more with some front court work by Rollans helping cut the deficit to five, 11-16.

The squads traded points, Jacksboro breaking serves on kills from Holman and Hadlee Richardson, before Hadlee served up six points to give the hostesses a 19-18 lead. Freshman Kylie Tullous and Harlee Richardson helped preserve the win and even the match at a game each.

Archer City came storming back to take a 12-6 lead in game three. A four-point skein by Harlee Richardson with front court help from McKenna McAnear and Holman cut the deficit to 11-12. Jacksboro would use the third tie as the charm with Hadlee Richardson falling off five straight to take a 21-17 lead. A pair of lift calls against the Lady ‘Cats and a pair of nifty blocks by Rollans would help the Tigerettes pull away. A Tullous pair set up game point to give the Tigerettes a 2-1 lead heading into game four.

Holman and Hadlee Richardson helped Jacksboro take a 6-1 lead into game fourth. A Harlee Richardson pair helped the Tigerettes lead 12-7.

Jacksboro would not come through with another serving point in the game, a nine-point string from the Lady Cats broke a 14-all tie and forced a fifth and rubber game to even the match at two games.

Holman opened the nightcap with a four-point serving string, which the Lady ‘Cats would never recover. Rollans had a solid fifth game on the front court as did Holman. Tullous ended the 1:55 match with an ace.

Jacksboro faced Windthorst Friday before hitting the road Tuesday in Burkburnett.
