Opening night of the two-week Windthorst Summer Volleyball League went well for Jacksboro.

The Tigerettes split a pair of hard-fought games with Burkburnett and Archer City. Both are teams they will see again in the non-district portion of the season. Brief summaries of both games follow.

Jacksboro 31, Burkburnett 29

In a nip and tuck affair throughout, the Tigerettes broke things open late and held on for the win.

Jacksboro fell behind 7-3 in the early going. Burkburnett, which had just five players and used a rotating one of Jacksboro’s to have the minimum six, fell behind 11-7 thanks to a seven-point string from Brailyn Tullous.

An Ashlyn Nunley serving point upped the lead at 13-8. Jacksboro was able to thwart any long serving runs thanks to the front court work of Erin Jonas and Charli Haak. A Jonas kill kept the Lady ‘Dogs from tying the match at 14.

Burkburnett would tie the game at 20. The squad would take a 24- 23 lead on the Tigerettes but a Haak block broke serve. Nunley added a serving pair for a 27-25 lead and the Purple held on for the victory.

Archer City 33, Jacksboro 32

The Lady ‘Cats broke a tie after time expired as a Tigerette kill went long.

Courtesy of a Kylie Tullous three-point run, including a pair of aces, Jacksboro jumped out to a 5-1 lead. Archer City came back to knot the game at six.

Lily Perez used a pair of Haak kills to further a three-point run to go up 10-6. Haak later added a serving point of her own for a 12-7 lead. Archer City wouldn’t go away, however and tied the match at 17. Jacksboro broke serve and used a Brialyn Tullous point to go up 19-17.

The Lady ‘Cats appeared to take control here and went up 26-19 before the Tigerettes broke serve.

Haak came through again offensively with an eight-point run of her own. A Rachael Chalmers block and Peyton Nail kill kept the drive alive. Nail added another kill to break a 29-all tie.

Chloe Hart extended the lead to two with a point. The Lady ‘Cats went up 32-31 before a Nail kill tied the game at 32.

The girls play tomorrow night to close out league play. Varsity action has games at beginning at 5 p.m. at Windthorst High School.
