Tigerettes roll at home vs.Windthorst

Wed, 09/02/2020 - 5:00 am

After a big five-game win over Archer City early in the week, Jacksboro’s varsity volleyball squad prepared itself for what certainly would be a battle vs. Windthorst Friday afternoon.

The Tigerettes held their own for most of the match, third game let down was the only blemish in a 25-19, 25-20, 22-25.25-23 win over the Trojanettes.

Jacksboro goes to 6-3 for the season. The Tigerettes fell behind early in game one but three points, including two aces, by Hadlee Richardson staked the squad to a 6-3 lead. Windthors tied the game at seven and the squads traded points for a spell before Rhett Rollans’ block set ups serving string from Alex Holman who put the score at 14-10. Harlee Richardson, Kylie Tullous and Lilli Gonzales each had serving points but it was the dynamic front court work from Rollans and Makenna McAnear which helped keep the Tigerettes ahead.

Serving points by Holman and Hadlee Richardson put the hostesses up 4-2 in game two. Windthorst took a lead for a spell until Holman and Harlee Richardson came back to serve and allowed Jacksboro retook the lead at 15-14. A three-point Tullous run, aided by a Traci Berend kill, forced a Windthorst timeout down 16-18.

Kills by Holman and Berend helped put the game away with Harlee Richardson’s string of points putting the Purple up 23-18 and give the squad a 2-0 lead in the match.

Runs by Holman and Harlee Richardson put Jacksboro up 7-5 in game three. Lilli Gonzales helped Jacksboro overcome a deficit later with a six-point string put the Tigerettes up 16- 11. Windthorst went up top 20-17 and Jacksboro would get no closer than two the rest of the game.

Tullous broke a tie to open game four with a four-point skein with Berend leading the charge with a pair of kills for a 6-2 lead. Teagan Reynolds rolled off another three for a 10-3 lead.

Like good teams do, Windthorst came back and took a lead at 19-18. Like good players do, Holman broke serve with a kill to get within 21-23. The senior setter then finished the job with four points, the 97-minute match ending on a Berend kill.

Jacksboro hit the road for Burkburnett Tuesday. No results as of press time.
