HOLLIDAY – Jacksboro’s softball team’s bats exploded for 15 hits in a tournament opener with Class 4A Sweetwater Thursday afternoon, enabling the Tigerettes to get out to an early lead and coast to a 14-1 win over the Mustangs.
It would be the start of a 4-1 weekend for the Tigerettes, who opened District 7-3A play here March 9. Results were not available as of press time.
In Thursday’s win, Senior Alex Holman allowed just two hits in the fray, striking out five. She walked two and hit a pair.
Jacksboro gave Holman all the help she’d need of fensively with a three-run first. Hadlee Richardson opened the scoring with an inside-the-park homer into the left centerfield gap. Kylie Tullous drew a walk with Holman’s single bringing her home where she was cut down at the plate.Courtesy runner Charlie Phariss advanced to second and scored on a Jaci Gann single for a 2-0 lead. Rylee Mathis’ double plated Gann for a 3-0 lead. A 6-3-5 double play groundout ended the inning.
A seven-run Tigerette second commenced with a one-out double by Teagan Reynolds. Hadlee Richardson moved her teammate to third with a two-out infield single.
The pair then scored on a Tullous single for a 5-0 cushion. Tullous went to second on the throw home and scored as Holman aided her cause with an RBI single.
Gann reached on an error and Mathis drew a walk to load the sacks. Destiny Valles had a bases clearing double to right and came home on Avery Bennett’s single for a 10-0 lead.
A four-run Tigerette third opened with one-out infield singles by Richardson and Tullous and a single by Tullous to fill the pond. Gann’s walk plated Richardson while Valles emptied the bases again, this time with a triple to end the Jacksboro scoring.
Sweetwater left the bases full in the third and had a solid homer in the fourth to avoid the shutout. Reynolds stroked a one-hop double off the fence to open the fourth but the next three hitters were retired.
In Friday’s opener, the Tigerettes suffered their lone setback of the tournament 7-4 to Decatur. Jacksboro got out to a 1-0 first-inning lead while the Lady Eagles scored two in the bottom of the inning. Jacksboro tied the game at three with a two-run third. Each team had a fourth-inning run before Decatur broke things open with a three-run sixth to clinch the win.
Decatur outhit the Tigerettes 11-4. Hadlee Richardson had two hits while classmate Alex Holman had an RBI. She picked up the complete game moss in the circle, striking out four.
In Friday’s nightcap, Jacksboro used a ninerun fourth for a 12-4 win over Petrolia, the second win over the squad this year. The Lady Bucs got out to a 4-0 lead on Jacksboro who then scored a second inning run, two more in the third before the eruption in the fourth. Kylie Tullous had four hits with Avery Bennett and Rylee Mathis each with two hits. Jaci Gann had three RBIs with Richardson contributing two.
Bennett got the win, striking out a pair in five innings.
Saturday, the Purple picked up wins over Valley View 3-1 and Archer City 8-4.
In the opener, Jacksboro broke a 1-all tie with single runs in the third and fourth frames after taking a 1-0 lead in the first. Jacksboro out hit Valley View 6-4 and beat the squad in the rubber game of the three-game season series.
Gann led the way with two hits and an RBI. Holman also had an RBI. Bennett picked up the complete game win in the pitching circle, striking out four.
Against Archer City, the Tigerettes got out to a 2-1 lead after one and scored five third-inning runs for a 7-1 lead. Archer City scored two in the third to get within four before the teams switched runs in the their final at-bat. Richardson and Valles each had two RBIs to pace Jacksboro. Mathis struck out two in her complete game pitching win.
