Tigerettes lose to City View

Wed, 10/05/2022 - 11:53 am

City View came into Tiger Gym on Tuesday, Sept. 27, looking to end the first round of District 7-3A play on a high note. The Lady Mustangs swept the Tigerettes 27-25, 25-16, 25-16.

Throughout the match, the Lady Mustangs (4-2 in 7-3A)were able to use the leaping ability of Kenedee Pennington and Emarei Brandon for kills and blocks which kept the Tigerettes on their toes.

Jacksboro still was able to stay close for most of the 72-minute match.

The Tigerettes used pairs of points from Avery Bennett, Kylie Tullous and Brailyn Tullous to go up 10-6 in the opener. Both Pennington and Brandon came through with pairs of points to knot the game at 12.

A Kylie Tullous kill set up a Chloe Hart serving point for a 14-12 lead. City View took its first lead with a four-point string by Aryana Whieside to force a Tigerette respite down 17-14.

Hart’s kill tied the game at 20 with a Lili Perez point sending the Lady Mustangs into a timeout down 21-20. Hart later served up a point for a 24-22 lead and Jacksboro forced another City View respite up 25-24.

It wasn’t to be, however, as Brandon served up the final two points, putting the finishing touches on the game with a block.

Kylie Tullous staked the Purple to a 3-0 lead in game two but City View would claw its way back. Single points by Hart and Kylie Tullous, both put home with Erin Jonas kills, would give the Tigerettes a 13-10 lead.

Jacksboro would get just one more serving point from Bennett, Ashlyn Nunley finishing the job with a kill, for its last lead at 15-13. Chyree Pennington broke the game open with an eight-point string for the visitors. Brandon then finished the job with a pair, Kenadee Pennington’s kill putting the Lady Mustangs up 2-0 in the best-of-five match.

City View led wireto- wire in the nightcap, sans for a Brailyn Tullous point, tying the game at four. Four Jonas kills would break serve but the Tigerettes would get just one serving point the rest of the match.
