Jacksboro’s girls basketballers are still looking to put a complete four quarters together.

The Tigerettes had a good first half, but fell apart in the third quarter on both sides of the ball, enabling the Windthorst Trojanettes to turn a close game into a 52-32 verdict Tuesday, Nov. 29.

Jacksboro falls to 2-4 with Windthorst upping to 3-1 for the season. Tigerette Coach Charla Valenzuela saw a lot of positive things in the early going.

“In the first half there were a lot of great things we can build on,” Valenzuela offered. “This was a tale of two halves. Even in our wins, we’ve taken a quarter off. The day we put four quarters together, we’re going to be something special.”

Windthorst was up 23-20 at the half, despite shooting 29% from the floor and 40% (820) from the free throw line. Using buckets from Megg Lindley and Cameron Belcher, the hostesses upped the lead to 10 barely two minutes into the second half.

The Tigerettes had a chance to get back in the game, Windthorst missing seven shots in a row from the floor, but took only five shots the entire third quarter. Rylee Mathis had both Jacksboro buckets.

Tara Tackett got Windthorst out of its shooting doldrums with three buckets and a pair of late free throws for an eight-point frame that enabled the Trojanettes to take a 41-25 lead into the fourth. The Tigerettes attempted to get back into the game but were just 2-12 shooting in the final frame, missing their last 10 shots from the field as part of a 32% shooting night (12-38) and 3-7 from the charity stripe.

Early foul trouble sent the hostesses into shooting the 1-1 with 2:29 left in the first. Windthorst was unable to take advantage, however, going 3-12 from the line in the opening stanza. Jacksboro was 2-3 from the stripe in the first but used threepoint plays from Brailyn Tullous and Lili Perez to bring the squad back from an early seven- point deficit to tie the game at 10 in the final seconds.

A nifty Mathis drive to the bucket gave the Tigerettes the lead at 12-11 early in the second. Windthorst went on a 7-0 run in the second which Jonas ended with free throws. Jonas later added a pair of buckets as her and classmate Avery Bennett were able to again cut a lead down in the final minute of a quarter.

Jonas had eight points and Mathis six for Jacksboro. Tackett led a trio in double figures for Windthorst with 13 points.
