Wed, 09/16/2020 - 12:00 am

Jacksboro’s varsity volleyball squad started and finished strong Saturday, leaving a little hiccup in the middle for visiting Breckenridge to get back in the fray before taking a 25-18, 25-23, 23-25, 25-17 win.

Jacksboro is now 1-1 in the District 7-3A ledger while the Bucks slip to 0-2.

As indicated by the scores, the teams battled throughout their encounter. Single serving points by Jacksboro’s Harlee Richardson and Teagan Reynolds gave the Purple an 8-5 lead in game one. Breckenridge also had issues getting its offense going with single tallies from Kylee Willis and Lilly Woodward keeping things close.

Richardson rolled off a pair as did fellow senior Lilli Gonzales to set up game point. Rhett Rollans, who had two kills and a block so far in game one, closed things out with a dink.

Woodward staked the visitors to a 3-1 lead in game two. Kylie Tullous knotted the game at three with a Reynolds kill finishing the job.

Jesi Warren then rolled off three straight points to take an 8-4 lead forcing Jacksboro into a timeout. Willis, a senior, came through with four serving points to extend the lead to 15-8 for the visitors.

Jacksboro broke serve and Tullous served up six points, using kills from Makenna McAnear and Traci Berend to knot the game at 16.

The teams traded points twice before Harlee Richardson put Jackson up 19-18. Tullous again broke the knot at 20.

Jimmena Palacios served up a pair to give Breckenridge a 23-21 lead. Jacksboro broke serve as a return went wide which set the stage for Alex Holman to roll off three straight to take game two.

A Tullous trio, which Harlee Richardson set the stage from with a kill, put Jacksboro up 7-2.

Lady Buck senior Alex Saucedo came through with four points to tie the game at seven but Reynolds’ pair put the hostesses up 10-7.

The squads traded tallies unit the Purple held a 20-16 lead. Looking a straight set loss in the face, Palacios stared back with a five-point string to give the Lady Bucks a 22- 20 lead. Hadlee Richardson tied the game again at 22, the first of two ties in the waning moments, before Woodward came through with game three’s final point.

Jacksboro used a Holman pair and a seven-point skein by Tullous to go up 11-3 in the nightcap. Palacios helped her team get back in the frame, her serving pair cutting the deficit to 12-15. Frontcourt work from McAnear broke serve twice late in the game.

Reynolds’ trio of serving points set up match point before a Holman dink ended the 96-minute match.
