Rally towel holders unite.

Since the Jacksboro Police Department gave out rally towels at last year’s game vs. Bowie, the Tigerettes are a perfect 2-0 in games declared “White-Out Nights.”

They may want to continue the trend.

Jacksboro came into Tuesday night’s matchup at 8-1, a game ahead of Peaster, which had beaten Jacksboro convincingly in the first round but had lost two straight to Brock and Breckenridge.  Playing its best game in more than six weeks in the eyes of its mentor, Jacksboro was able to avenge the earlier loss Tuesday night with a 57-39 victory.

Jacksboro is all alone in first place in District 7-3A at 9-1 with the win. Brock is a game behind at 8-2 with Peaster at 7-3 after suffering its third straight setback. Jacksboro Coach Todd Matlock said playing within the squad’s “self” was key.

“Defensively we play matchup zone. We didn’t extend ourselves and allow them to shoot layups,” Matlock stated. “We took care of the ball offensively and shot good shots. (We had) eight turnovers the entire game and only allowed four offensive rebounds.

“It was the best game we have played by far since our change of identity (the loss of Trinity Tisdale Dec. 6).”

The Lady ‘Hounds led District 7-3A after the first round of play, going a perfect 7-0 in the process.

Jacksboro got out to a quick start against the visitors leading 14-6 after one. Junior post Baylee Thompson had eight points to lead the squad with Jordan Nichols contributing four and senior classmate Leah Plaster a bucket.

The Tigerettes did not let off the gas in the second, outscoring Peaster 10-7 for a 24-13 halftime lead. Thompson had six points and Plaster four for Jacksboro.

An 18-14 third-quarter uprising enabled Jacksboro to extend its lead to 42-27, despite allowing more points than in the entire first half. Nichols had nine points, including a three with Thompson adding five. Plaster and sophomore Hadlee Richardson each had two points.

Nichols was a perfect 4-4 at the stripe among her six points in the fourth. Plaster had five and Thompson four as the Purple outscored the visitors 15-12 in the final frame.

Thompson led the way for Jacksboro with 23 points. Nichols had 19 and Plaster 13.
