Tigerettes 2nd in Bryson

BRYSON – Jacksboro finished 2nd in Pool A, going 2-1, and made it to the Finals of the Small School Shootout Tournament here last weekend.

Jacksboro 25-25, GoldBurg 13-18

The Tigerettes slowly grew their lead in each game to open pool play.

Lili Perez rolled off four straight to break a 1-all tie in the opener. The Lady Bears would tie the game at seven on to have junior Kylie Tullous serve up three straight for an 11-7 lead.

Charlii Haak broke things wide open with a four-point run, including two aces, to give the Purple a 16-8 cushion and force a GoldBurg timeout. An Erin Jonas kill kept the Haak drive alive for Jacksboro.

Junior setter Chloe Hart moved the lead into double figures with a five-point skein, including two aces for a 22-9 advantage. The Tigerettes set up match point with a Tullous kill which eventually ended game one.

In game two, Brailyn Tullous’ ace gave the Tigerettes a 4-2 lead. Single tallies by Kylie Tullous and Haak, aided by kills from Jonas and Brailyn Tullous, extended the lead to 8-4.

The Lady Bears got within 9-8 before a Rachael Chalmers kill broke serve. Perez’s three point skein, aided by a Payton Nail kill, gave the Purple its biggest lead of the game to date at 13-8.

Avery Bennett had a three-point string, helped from kills from Kylie Tullous and Haak, to force another Lady Bear timeout up 17-9. Haak added a two-point string with Hart setting up match point with help from a Chalmers block at 24-17.

Bryson 25-25-25, Jacksboro 27-15-15

The Tigerettes got out to an early lead and held on late to get the game one win but Bryson rebounded to remain unbeaten in the tournament.

Lily Perez rolled off the first four for the Tigerettes. Single tallies by Avery Bennett and Charli Haak kept the lead at four, 10-6. Three points from Orr cut the lead to 9-10.

Vallianttiedthegame at 11 with Hauger’s pair, helped by a Moore kill, putting Bryson up 14-12. Three Bennett points put Jacksboro up 16-14.

Zoey Morrow put Bryson up 20-18 with Orr extending the lead to 23-19. Jacksboro held its own, using three Chloe Hart serving points to tie the game at 23. Perez broke a tie at 24 with a single. Jacksboro broke serve at 25-all with Bennett then finishing the job with a single to end game one.

Bryson used serving runs from Hauger, Emery Fisher and Louder to go up 10-4 and force Jacksboro into a timeout. Hart cut the deficit in half with three straight points but Orr had three points of her own to go up 14-7. Aided by front court held from Moore and Valliant, Perez used four straight serving points for a 22-11 lead to force another Tigerette respite.

Bennett’s three-point skein, aided by a Haak block cut the lead to seven but a Moore kill and Fisher serving pair evened the match at a game each.

Hauger’s eight-point run to open the tiebreaker never allowed Jacksboro to get in game three. Morrow moved the lead to 14-4 with a pair. Jacksboro made things interesting with senior Rachael Chalmers breaking serve with a kill and Haak rolling off five points to cut the lead to 10-14. The lead then fluctuated between five and seven before Louder put the final three nails in the coffin.

Jacksboro 25-25, MWCC 11-12

The Lady Warriors had just one lead the entire match to open game one.

MWCC broke serve and had a serving point to lead 2-0. It was all Tigerettes from there. A Kylie Tullous kill broke serve with Bennett serving up four points, including an ace, for a 5-2 lead.

Another Tullous kill broke serve and allowed sister Brailyn to roll off a three-point run for a 9-3 lead. Haak kept both drives alive with blocks and served up two points to keep the lead at 12-6. Transfer Emma Gray helped Haak’s run with a kill.

The runs continued to be very short but frequent to allow Jacksboro to extend its lead. Two-point strings from Hart and Perez extended the lead to 18-9. Brailyn Tullous closed things out with a pair of aces amidst a five-point run.

A service break and a two-point Perez string, aided by a Chalmers block, got the Tigerettes on the right foot. Bennett then broke things wide open with an 11-point string. Kills by Haak and Kylie Tullous helped put the Tigerettes up 15-1. There would be just one more service point from Brailyn Tullous the rest of the game.

In Saturday’s semifinals, the Purple opened with Electra and posted a 25-11, 25-17 win.

A Kylie Tullous kill and three-point Bennett string put the Purple up 4-1 in the opener. Electra took a 7-6 lead before a broken serve enabled Haak to roll off five straight, aided by a Jonas kill, for a 12-7 Jacksboro cushion.

Perez moved the lead into double figure at 20-10 with a five-point string, the finale thrown down by a Chalmers kill. Bennett then served up the final four points to end game one in just 14 minutes.

Electra stormed out to a 11-4 lead in game two before singles from Haak and Hart and a four-point string from Perez, who received front court help from a Chalmers kill and block to knot the game at 13.

It was Bennett, however, who rolled off seven straight with help via a pair of Kylie Tullous kills. Tullous broke serve with another kill and added a pair of serving points to set up match point. Electra broke serve but a ball into the net ended the match ended that contest in just 38 minutes.

Bryson 24-25-25, Jacksboro 26-16-18

Bryson moved on to face Jacksboro for the second time in the tourney in the Final. The hostesses again had to rebound from an opening game setback to win the last two games.

Jacksboro jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the opener courtesy of Bennett’s seven-point string. Orr’s four-point skein brought the Cowgirls within 8-10 to force a Jacksboro timeout. Later, Orr’s six-point run tying the game at 24.

The Tigerettes prevailed, however to the delight of a large throng of supporters.

This time, it was Bryson who got out to the early lead; Hauger serving up seven points for an 8-0 lead, aided by a Fisher block. Bennett cut the lead in half with a three-point string with a Haak block keeping things going.

Three-point runs from Fisher and Orr, each with kills by Valliant, moved the lead to 18-9. Bryson led by as many as 11, using an Orr kill to go up 22-11 but it was Valliant’s seventh kill of the game on a Perez point which forced game three.

The nightcap was a back and forth tussle. Hauger staked the hostesses out to a 2-0 lead only to have Lilli Perez, aided by a Chalmers block, put the Tigerettes up 3-2. Pairs by Bennett and Brailyn Tullous put the Purple ahead 9-4 and sent Bryson into a timeout.

Valliant broke serve with a kill with Morrow’s single and four straight by Orr putting Bryson back up 11-10. After having a great day in the front court, Valliant rolled off four straight with some help from a combo block from Moore and Perez for a 16-11 lead.

Kills by Moore broke serve twice late. A threepoint Fisher string, including an ace, putting the Cowgirls up 23-15. The squads exchanged sideouts to end the match. Jacksboro plays in the Poolville Tournament this weekend.
