Tigerette varsity splits Saturday matches with Lake Worth, Paradise

Wed, 09/02/2020 - 5:00 am

PARADISE – Led Zeppelin’s 1970’s classic “Communication Breakdown” should’ve been the theme song of the day at Panther Gym Saturday for the Jacksboro varsity volleyball team.

The girls never seemed to get into a zone with communicating leading to mental and physical mistakes throughout the matches with Lake Worth and the host team. Jacksboro did manage to beat Lake Worth in four games 25- 19, 25-15, 17-25, 25-22.

The match with their former district rivals was another story entirely as the Lady Panthers posted a 25-8, 25-11, 25-19 win. Brief summaries of both matches follow:

Jacksboro 25-25-17- 25, Lake Worth 19-15- 25-22

The Class 4A Lady Frogs gained confidence throughout the 94-minute affair but the Purple had just enough gas in its tank to pull away.

In the opener, a Hadlee Richardson kill set the stage for a three-point string by classmate Alex Holman for a 4-0 lead. Kylie Tullous rolled off three points with from front court help from Traci Berend and Harlee Richardson for a 10-3 cushion.

Harlee Richardson served up four in a row, including an ace to move the lead into double figures at 18-7. Holman’s kill broke the Lady Frogs’ serve and allowed Lili Gonzales to serve up three straight while Hadlee Richardson later served out the match.

Jacksboro jumped out to another 4-0 lead in game two, Holman doing the trick once again, but the Lady Frogs came storming back to take a 7-6 lead. Jacksboro broke serve before a seven-point Tullous string put Jacksboro up 14-7.

It would prove to be the difference as Teagan Reynolds, Jenna Herd, Tullous and Reynolds came through with single points the latter coming through with the final to put the Tigerettes up 2-0 in the match.

Lake Worth jumped out to a 7-0 lead in game three. The Frogs led 19-6 late in the set and a four-point Holman starring by Holman hasn’t enough.

Tied at two in the finale, Harlee Richardson’s kill broke a 2-all tie with Tullous rolling off five in a row for an 8-2 lead. Teagan Reynolds served three in a row for a 12-3 cushion.

Lake Worth tied the game at 21 before Jacksboro broke the tie before Tullous served a pair to serve match point.

Paradise 25-25-25, Jacksboro 8-11-19

The Lady Panthers needed just under an hour to take care of business.

Jacksboro could get no offense going, coming through with just one serving point from Tullous to cut the deficit to 6-3 early in the opener.

In game two, Jacksboro was able to break serve more often, getting front court work from the Richardson girls, Holman and fellow senior Rhett Rollans but just one point from Tullous late in the game after Paradise built up a 20-9 lead.

The Tigerettes held their own in game three, tying the game at four on a Tullous pair, using a three-pointGonzales string to take a 12-10 lead, forcing a Paradise timeout. Jacksboro led 15-13 on a Hadlee Richardson kill to break serve but it was nearly all Paradise from there.
