Wed, 02/24/2021 - 5:00 am

VALLEY VIEW – No preseason practices. No problem.

With zero time to see his team in action, veteran Jacksboro Softball Coach John Bennett led his team here to open the 2021 season with no practice or scrimmages due to weather issues.

Things went pretty well for the young squad, as they garnered a split with the Class 3A Lady Eagles. The Tigerettes won the opener with a late rally, 9-6 while falling in the nightcap, 8-2.

In game one, a four-run seventh broke a tie and lifted the Purple to the season-opening win.

Jacksboro had six hits, two each from Jaci Gann and Hadlee Richardson who each had two RBIs as well. The Tigerettes showed patience at the plate as well, getting two walks each from Kylie Tullous, Alex Holman and Destiny Valles, Holman had two RBIs.

Each team had a first-inning run with the Purple lead 3-1 after a pair of second inning runs.

Valley View erased the lead with three runs in the bottom of the frame and added a third inning run to take a 5-3 lead after three.

Jacksboro had single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to knot the game at five, setting the stage for the wild seventh frame. Tullous, a freshman, struck out four in three innings in her first action in the circle.

In game two, Valley View scored four runs in each of the first two innings to take the game two victory. Jacksboro had both runs in the third. Tullous had the lone hit for the Purple and batted in a run.

Jacksboro played in Brudgeport Monday. No results were available as of press time.
