Tiger Pee Wees beat Holliday, 30-14

While Holliday Pee Wees won the turnover battle Saturday night, it was Jacksboro that won the game, breaking open a close encounter with some second half offense in a 30-14 win at Tiger Stadium.

Jacksboro goes to 4-1 with the win with the Eagles slipping to 3-3. Holliday recovered a fumble

Holliday recovered a fumble on the Tigers’ opening drive. Jacksboro’s “bend but not break” defense received a big stop by Sebastian Romero on the Eagles’ initial drive for a turnover on downs. The Tigers’ Billy Ray Thompson busted a 25-yard run into Holliday territory on the ensuing drive but another fumble recovery prevented further damage.

Romero got some defensive help from J.J. Beverage late in an Eagle drive giving the Tigers the ball at its 20. Kyndon Salazar and McCoy Mower runs and a costly Holliday miscue set up first-and-goal at the Eagle 8.

Ryder Hamilton, on a double reverse, busted an 18-yard run score to pay dirt. Thompson added the conversion run with 2:16 left in the half. The squads ended the half with T.O. on downs and an Eduardo Mena interception.

The Tiger defense continued to force turnover on downs with Austin Gass, Cullen Flaniken, and Stone Thompson tackles giving the ball back to Jacksboro. Braeden Hiughes’ second fumble recovery of the evening for Holliday got the ball back.

On the ensuing Tiger series, Salazar went up the gut untouched on the draw 61 yards to the promised land. Another Billy Ray Thompson conversion run extended the lead to 16-0 with 2:33 remaining in the third.

Holliday got inside the Tiger 20 with an 35-yard Axton Morgan run. Morgan then caught a 12-yard pass from to get the Eagles on the board with 6:42 to go in the game. Ryder Hamilton’s stop on the conversion kept the score 16-6. Another Holliday fumble recovery was given back to Jacksboro on a turnover on downs.

Jacksboro began to pull away on this drive. Billy Ray Thompson going 24 yards to the Eagle 16 with Mower following with the 18-yard scoring run. Mean added the conversion run for a 24-6 lead with 2:44 left.

Holliday got back within striking distance less than a minute later with a 54-yard jaunt by Cordell Hamill. Colton Jorgensen added the conversion to cut the lead to 24-14 with 1:57 to go.

Jaxson Fry got the score back as time expired going up the gut for the touchdown.

Jacksboro returns to action Saturday with a 10 a.m. game in Vernon.
