Thankful for some ‘Ade

Wed, 08/12/2020 - 5:00 am

August in Texas is going to be hot, there’s just not anyway around it.

This has been a very tolerable summer here with highs in some cases not breaking 90 degrees which is almost unheard of. The players out on area football fields I’ve spoken with have said it’s been quite tolerable so far during the first week of workouts.

Although inside, volleyballers at our three county schools have been giving their all and plowing through blood, sweat, and tears getting ready for their season openers earlier this week. Jacksboro and Bryson did battle in the Tigers’ Den with Perrin hosting a tri-match with Bluff Dale and Saint Jo.

There’s been plenty of schedule changes, cross country coaches around the county still trying to get a schedule together. The UIL (Sieg Heil) has limited the number of football scrimmages to one, meaning this Friday’s scrimmage at Archer City will instead be a Purple/White Scrimmage at home beginning at 6 p.m.

Jacksboro Mentor Brannon Rodgers said it may be a blessing in disguise as it will give him an extra chance to look at some of the kids that may be on the varsity bubble. The Tigers travel to Sanger Thursday, Aug. 20 for a 6 p.m. scrimmage.

On the volleyball side, teams are not allowed to play any tournaments so several more tri and quad meets are going on in the early going.

The Tigerettes head to former district mate Boyd Friday for a tri-meet with the Yellowjackets and Poolville that opens a five-match road swing that will not end until Football Opening Night Aug. 28 vs. Windthorst.

Friday, Aug. 28 will be a busy day for Jacksboro athletes as the cross country and football teams open their season. Cross country opens at Boyd, where the district meet will take place Nov. 11. Football will host Breckenridge in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Some closing remarks. Don’t forget to purchase an ad for our Fall Sports Tab. The deadline is Friday and the section will run Aug. 26. It will have team photos, previews and such. if you’re a local business who has employees that like sports, don’t forget to contact Krystin to buy an ad.

May have to get out and buy some Gator or Powerade.

That’s about it for this week. As always, thanks for reading.

See y’all down the road.
