Summer BB falls to Bowie

Wed, 08/05/2020 - 5:00 am

With the ability to look to the Jacksboro baseball future, Tiger faithful should admit that the future is pretty bright.

Granted, a 10-1 loss to Bowie’s varsity squad July 28 may have left some mental bumps and bruises but the squad made up of several young and incoming freshman players definitely has the next few years look promising.

Bowie struck for seven runs on four hits in the Jackrabbit first. The Bowie cause was also aided by a pair of early miscues.

Kasey Ray Swan came on in relief of Josh Pierce in the second and did a solid job, allowing a run on two hits with a pair of walks before retiring the last two batters he faced to leave the bases loaded.

Jacksboro picked up its lone run in the bottom of the inning, with some of the younger players doing the job. Baylor Laake opened with a walk. With one gone, incoming freshman Lando Belcher ripped a double to left center to plate the run. The next two batters struck out to end the inning.

Laake would come on to throw the last two frames, striking out two, walking one and hitting a batter. The Tigers threatened in each of the final two innings to end the game on time limit.

A Harmonson walk and stolen base moved the senior into scoring position with one out. Belcher moved his teammate to third with his second hit of the contest to put runners at the corners.

Harmonson was retired at the plate on a fielder’s choice in place of Swan but Swan and Belcher were left holding the bag in scoring position.
