Staying busy in some respects

Wed, 10/28/2020 - 5:00 am

While I’m not having any troubles hitting my 40 hours a week, I’m considering switching some things around to get some more sports in the short term.

Although no one noticed, I did have some freshman and JV football in the paper in late August because of early deadlines so I could fill pages. I have no problems with that when it’s for the right reasons.

I tend to go varsity first and when the need is there and I have room, then I go sub varsity, even junior high and middle school, if it’s there. I used to run middle school stuff all the time but the week dried up.

I still wouldn’t mind doing it if I have the room, but I hate to see the coaches spend the time and effort to write it up and then not get it in. Some JMS parents wouldn’t mind seeing it either.

With volleyball done for the most part, and just one team qualifying for the postseason in Bryson, the more stuff I can get the merrier.Until basketball gets rolling in full swing, I’m going to need some stuff.

Thanks to the BASS fishing guys for sending me stuff when they have tournaments. They did well at a tournament out at Possum Kingdom Lake recently. The JHS group’s next tournament is Nov. 14 out at Lake Whitney.

The squad will then have a few tournaments once things warmup again. Regionals are in April and State at Lake Texoma in mid-May.

Still, the big talk is football in the near future. Jacksboro suffered a tough loss the other night at Eastland and will host Senior Night Friday at 6:30 p.m. vs. Comanche. More than 20 football seniors will be taking part in the ceremony along with parents for the band, cheerleaders, cross country and more.

Basketball schedules are out for both Jacksboro and Bryson (see story, same section). As I’ve said before, since there are no tournaments, lots of teams are playing Tuesday, Friday, and some Saturdays to get more games. Can’t blame them because they have to get the non-district action somewhere which is a good thing.

That’s about it for this week. As always, thanks for reading.

See y’all down the road.
