Peaster uses speed to knock Tigerettes from playoffs

POOLVILLE – There’s never a problem in a loss as long as you know you left everything on the court.

Jacksboro’s girls were very heavy underdogs to No-6 Peaster in the bi-district round of the Class 3A playoffs Thursday afternoon here. The Tigerettes gave their all before a standing room only crowd bu the Lady ‘Hounds had too much in the tank in the second half in posting a closer than it looked 64-31 win at Monarch Gym.

Jacksboro ends its campaign at 12-12 while Peaster continues its playoff run at 24-4.

The Tigerettes took their only lead at 4-2 on Kylie Tullous’ three-pointer. From there, a 12-2 Lady ‘Hound run to close the quarter, Jacksboro’s points coming via an Alex Holman basket, would have the Tigerettes in a hole they could never climb out of.

The Purple took as many shots in the first quarter as it would in the next two. Jacksboro’s defense forced several turnovers but it wouldn’t lead to a lot of points in the middle frames.

Jacksboro more than doubled its offense of the first eight minutes, despite shooting just 1-5 from the floor on a Tullous hoop. Holman and Tullous combined to go 6-8 at the charity stripe in the second to get the other points.

Peaster, however, had just four free throws in the first half and was perfect at the line. Sophomores Kylie Ruddy and Peyton-Hull combined for the rest of the Lady ‘Hound points which gave Peaster a 29-14 lead at the half.

Peaster outscored Jacksboro 18-6 in the third, breaking things open with an abundance of speed. A Holman bucket ended a Peaster run, but the senior post would get no help, scoring all six Tigerette points in the third. The Lady ‘Hounds would take a 47-20 lead into the final frame.

Jacksboro cut the lead to 23 with three-pointers by Tullous and Traci Berend in the early moments of the fourth. Baskets by Holman and Tullous would close the scoring, the Tigerettes missing their last nine shots from the field.

Holman had 14 points and 12 boards in her final game in a Jacksboro basketball uniform. Tullous added 13 more. Hull led three in double figures with 24 points for the Lady ‘Hounds.
