Bowie sweeps past Tigerettes to end playoff hopes

BOWIE – Jacksboro’s varsity volleyball team came into Jackrabbit Gym Oct. 13 in a must win situation in order to set up a potential play-in match fore the postseason.

The Tigerettes knew Bowie was beatable, having gotten out to a 2-0 lead in the best-offive vs. the Lady Rabbits in the first meeting last month before losing the match. They came out early and took what most would believe was a sizable lead … and let it slip away.

The game one loss was really all it took, as Jacksboro never fully showed the intensity of the opening minutes and wound up on the short end of a 22-25, 13-25, 20-25 setback. Jacksboro dropped to 3-7 in District 7-3A with Bowie going to 4-5 in the loop.

A spirited but focused warmup for the Purple continued into the opener, senior Alex Holman putting home a pair of tallies aided by a Teagan Reynolds kill. Bowie went up 6-3 on a Lexi Kirkham tally and led 7-5 before Jacksboro took control of the opener. ss After breaking serve, lies Reynolds rolled off six straight points to force a Lady Rabbit timeout. A pair of Holman kills kept the drive alive. Holman’s classmate Harlee Richardson came through with five serving tal as the Tigerettes took a 12-11 advantage into an 18-11 lead.

Jacksboro maintained the lead but Bowie slowly came back with a pair o f Taylan Jones points cut the lead to 19-15. A Holman serving point put the visitors up 21-15.

It would be the last Purple serving tally, the Tigerettes leading 22-18 before a Kirkham kill broke serve and set the table for her to roll off the final six points. A J.C. Logan kill and Gracie Duke’s block in the front court kept the streak alive and closed out the game.

Jacksboro continued to fight, using serving points from Hadee Richardson, Kylie Tullous and Jenna Herd to tie the game at 10. A four-point string by Kirkham and five straight by Jones would enable Bowie to take control and pull away.

Bowie got out to a 12-8 advantage in the finale, before a six-point run by Herd puts the Tigerettes up 16-13. Bowie broke serve and got out to a 19-15 lead.

A Reynolds kill broke serve and Lilli Gonzales’ single point got the Tigerettes within 20-22 but no closer as Bowie served out the match.

Jacksboro hosted Henrietta for Senior Day Saturday (See story, same section) and was off Tuesday. The squad will close the season Friday at 4 p.m. at City View.
