Perrin’s boys basketballers were the smallest team in the Festival of Lights Tournament in Wichita Falls. The Pirates showed they deserve respect with a 2ndplace finish, however.
Perrin opened the two-day tournament with an 82-57 win over Archer City. The squad closed out Friday with a 59-54 win over Dodd City, a regional finalist from a year ago.
Saturday, the Pirates beat Class 5A Wichita Falls High 57-41 t move into the championship. Their opponent would be a Class 3A state finalist from 2022, Wichita Falls City View. Perrin held tough throughout the game, leading 2120 after one quarter. Outscoring the Mustangs 18-16 in the second, Perrin extended its lead to 39-36 at the half.
City View outscored the Pirates 12-9 in the third to tie the game at 48 heading into the fourth quarter. City View began to put things away early in the final frame, outscoring the Pirates 24-18 in the fourth.
Dayne Thompson led the Pirates with 26 points with Jack Mc-Cormick tossing in 24. Both had four three-pointers in the game and were named to the All-Tour-Bryson’s nament team.
