OLNEY – For the second straight year, Perrin’s volleyballers gave an opponent many thought they wouldn’t compete with everything they wanted.

Unfortunately for the Lady Pirates, Electra had too much in the tank late and sent Perrin to a 17-25, 26-24, 22-25, 14-25 Class A bi-district loss here Tuesday night.

Electra, the second place team in District 9-A, jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game one and were never headed. Summer Burkett and Natasha Frissell came through with serving pairs with Makenna Mathis serving up three in a row but it wasn’t enough.

Aaliyah Brown began the turnaround for the Lady Pirates with a kill to break serve and tie game two at three. She then served up three points to give Perrin its first lead of the match at 6-3. The Lady Tigers went upon and Erika Hernandez came through with four straight points, aided by a pair of Mathis kills for an 11-7 lead.

Senior Abby Vanbuskirk’s kill broke Electra’s serve up 12-9 before the squads traded hideouts. Electra tied the game at 19 before Perrin broke serve and set the stage for Hernandez who rolled off another three-point string for a 23-19 lead to force the Lady Tigers into a timeout.

Undaunted, Electra broke serve and knotted the game at 23. Vanbuskirk again came through with a kill down the left baseline to set up game point. Electra tied the game before Perrin had the final two tallies to even the match at a game apiece.

Game three was much of the same, Electra staking itself to a 9-4 lead to force Perrin Coach Rebekah Bland into a timeout. A Vanbuskirk kill allowed Mathis to roll off a five-point string to give Perrin its first lead at 10-9.

After Electra tied the game, Burkett rolled off three straight for a 14-10 lead. A five-point string by Kayce Box put the Lady Tigers up two but Frissell got the game tied at 18 with a deuce.

The Lady Tigers went up 23-19 to take control. Perrin got within two on a Hernandez point but no closer.

The same would go as runs by Mylie Maness and Natalie Jones put Electra up 12-2 in game fourPairs by Brown and Hernandez would be the longest strings offensively the Lady Pirates could get going late.
