Perrin opens with sweep of Bluff Dale

PERRIN – Looking for its third straight playoff berth, Perrin’s volleyballers started off on the right foot Aug. 11.

The Lady Pirates opened with a straightset win over visiting Bluff Dale 25-10, 25-21, 25-10. Lady Pirate Coach Rebekah Bland said it was good to see the kids back on the court once again.”It gave them a chance to practice with me again, which was really glad to see,” Bland said following the 58-minute match. “We need to practice right now after being gone from any thing for so long.”

Bland liked seeing her kids very relaxed and it showed on the court. The girls worked together as a team and had solid days individuallyBack-to-back aces by Gracie Turnrer staked Perrin to a 3-0 lead in the opener.

Kamryn Staggs and Kason Collier each has three point run to take a 10-5 lead. Nayeli Lopez put home a thunderous to end the run. Lopez had three aces among a six-point run to put the hostesses up 18-8.

A Staggs dink broke serve up 19-10 with Savannah Burkett serving up the final six points, including two aces.

PerrinAaliyah Brown’s three-point string and a seven-point run later in the game put the Lady Pirates up 15-4. Bluff Dale took advantage of some less focused play from Perrin to get within 21-24. A Staggs kill ended the game.

A Staggs kill broke serve in game three, the senior hitter then rolling off three straight tallies to take a 5-2. Brown then opened a seven-point string with consecutive aces as the hostesses took the lead into double figures at 15-4.

Buff Dalecut the deficit to nine, at 6-15 before Perrin broke serve. Pairs by Turner and Lopez would highlight and help Perrin pull away.

Perrin was forced into a new offense because of one of its setters having surgery late last week. There are still some bugs to work out which Bland said will be being worked on throughout the season.
