Perrin girls open district with 18-0 win
PERRIN – Perfection is considered by the number 300 ... at least in bowling.
Perrin Softball Coach Ben Staggs reached “perfection” Tuesday afternoon with his 300th coaching win, an 18-0 District 21-A opening victory over visiting Graford. Staggs admitted his career has been far from perfect, but he was glad to open district action on a high note.
“I would have rather seen us have to play a little defense today,” Staggs offered following the hour-long contest. “I liked the way we stayed back against a slower pitcher and let it come to us.”
The Lady Pirates (8-4) pounded out 14 hits and gave pitcher Niecia Gary more than enough offense courtesy of a 13-run first inning. A five-run second and Gary slamming the door in the third ended the game on mercy rule.
Gary opened the game with a walk to Chelsie Baldwin, then struck out the next eight hitters before hitting Baldwin with a pitch with two gone in the third. She then finished with a strikeout to complete the no-hitter.
