ALVORD – The hostesses clicked nearly from the start and sent state-ranked Perrin to a 25-19, 19-25, 25-17, 25-11 setback Sept. 29.

Perrin battled throughout the match but never could seem to get on track offensively, despite some nice serving runs. Alvord had the same issue but was able to get more of the runs to pull away throughout the 85-minute match.

It was a three-point string from freshman Addison Gose that enabled Alvord to begin pulling away in game one, going up 18-12 and forcing the lady Pirates into a timeout. Perrin continued to hold its own, breaking serve and getting a Natasha Frissell serving pair, aided by a Makenna Mathis kill to draw within three. Alvord used another threepoint run to set up game point and take the win.

Mathis staked Perrin to a 3-0 lead in game two, using front court work from sophomore Kennadee Langham to keep things alive. Alvord would take a 6-4 lead before Perrin broke serve and got a pair of points from Priscilla Saldivar, aided by a Mathis kill, to retake the lead at 7-6.

It was Frissell who broke things open with a five-point skein to extend the lead to 13-7. Senior Aaliyah Brown’s kill kept the drive alive. Brown later added a serving pair to keep the lead at six. Frissell, helped by a Landry Anderson block, forced Alvord into a timeout. Brown then finished the game with a pair, including an ace on game point.

Perrin staked itself to an early game three lead. Jessa Angelly’s three-point string, with some help from Brown and Langham kills, put Perrin up 5-1. Alvord went up 7-6 on a Gose string and then extended the string with a six-point run from senior Bailey Rogers to go up 14-7.

Perrin would get no closer than four the rest of the game, a three-point serving run from Erika Hernandez and a pair from Mathis getting the visitors within 16-20.

Alvord let wire to wire in the finale. Two Mathis serving points was all the offense the Lady Pirates could muster late.
