Options make the U.S. go round

Wed, 07/22/2020 - 5:00 am

I remember the day they announced sports was coming back to the TV airwaves like it was yesterday.

Yeah, it was Korean baseball but, dad gummed it, it was LIVE SPORTS. It would be on in the middle of the night and we wouldn’t know any of the players but (see above).

I saw sliding tackles and always enjoyed soccer because the fans always were loud. I later found out it was because they were normally drunk too.

Spring and summer have flown by here and it’s been nothing but a snoozer. I’ve witnessed a couple baseball games and we had a nice weekend trip to Oklahoma (where my wife slipped in the shower) and Nacogdoches which got my wife wicked excited over going back to the campus she hadn’t seen in 30 years.

Things continue to ramp up, however, as professional basketball, baseball, and hockey will be starting in the coming days. Baseball gets started tomorrow night with the other two commencing next week.

My Tigers won’t have a chance in the 60- game festivities but it’s always interesting to see how they’re going to handle social distancing. Lord knows we don’t here in Texas with the riots and rodeo in Weatherford recently (just watch those COVID rates skyrocket, won’t ya?).

I’ll still watch them, however, when I can. Watch a little Astros-Rangers battle too as well.

I like the Rangers and Astros being in the West because when they play on the road, many of the games are 9:05 p.m. first pitches so I can see the games. Also, with the Texas teams playing vs. NL West teams, they’ll be more West Coast excitement as well.

NBA and NHL will have no fans from what I hear as they’re both playing at regional sites. NBA in Orlando with the NHL Western Conference (i.e. Stars) throwing down in Edmonton. Let’s play a few exhibition games and get the playoffs rolling.

They will play until the end of September and have a short break before getting the next regular season started in the late Fall.

Now, this sounds like a lot of fun because we have a lot of options.

There’s just one more set of opening I want to see: high school football. Let’s hope for the best.

That’s about it for this week. As always, thanks for reading.

See y’all down the road.
