Liking the doubleheader

Wed, 11/11/2020 - 5:00 am

MILLSAP – After having missed several months of sports due to COVID earlier this year, I like doing anything but not at the sacrifice of friends or family.

This past Friday the Jacksboro girls basketball coaches and teams opened their season over at Millsap, just ahead of the football team which was playing in their regular season finale. It was a neat idea and one designed to get folks excited before the football game, which had the Tigers fighting for playoff positioning.

After having no scrimmages which don’t do much in the eyes of the second-year coaches, so it was the first chance to see the girls against another opponent and not simply a teammate. Millsap was a former district teammate for the girls and boys and brewed up some tight games in there process throughout the year.

It also gave me a chance to cover two games in one, which is always great to try and get someone else covered. People sometime ask me who I’m covering or who I’m with. I tell them Jacksboro and get question on whether I know someone did

The kids ask me if I get their picture in the paper. I tell the truth, I’m here to focus on the Tiger and Tigerettes but if I get something else, I tend to save it in my weekly folder for posterity’s purpose.

Also, before I forget, I have an apology to make. This old mind plays tricks on me sometimes. Sometimes the mistakes get caught and sometimes they don’t.

It’s never out of spite. In last week’s paper, I had the Tiger FB team playing Cherokee and not Comanche, who was the actual opponent. I think the fact they both began with a C might have thrown me as I made the miscue a number of times.

While I agree and am glad I’m being read, it’s amazing that I only hear about the stuff that causes a chuckle at my expense. If it was ever a positive or a nice job, I would more than likely have a stroke.

I can name on my hands and toes the amount of compliments I’ve had on my games here, but am stunned by the amount of Bryson positive notes and comments I’ve received this year.

Didn’t know I had that many fans, but will continue to do my best for everyone.

That’s about it for this week. As always, thanks for reading.

See y’all down the road.
