Lady Pirates win opener against Lady Bobcats

Tue, 08/17/2021 - 6:39 pm

PERRIN – Lady Pirate volleyball opened the season on the up swing Monday, Aug. 9 with a convincing 25-12, 25-17, 25-17 homecourt win over the Bluff Dale Lady Bobcats.

The match was the last of a five match day between the two schools and Saint Jo. Since Saint Jo is a district foe of Perrin, the latter two schools did not compete.

Perrin Mentor Rebekah Bland was pleased with what she saw to open the campaign. Having the young team, with just one senior, play together this summer has paid dividends.

“We played in the Graham summer league and also had a small league here later,” Bland offered following the 51-minute opener. “When you lose all the seniors we had, it was important for them to play together early and often this year.”

The girls came out fired up and ready to roll. A five-point serving string by Makenna Mathis opened the contest, the visitors having problems event getting the ball back to the net. Bluff Dale held its own, however, and got back within one at 4-5.
