Lady Pirates lose pair in summer league play

Wed, 07/27/2022 - 5:00 am

Perrin’s volleyball teams continue preparation for the upcoming volleyball season with play in a Monday night volleyball league.

Teams include Alvord, Poolville and Graford, which hosted the league this week. Teams played a 25-minute simulated match. The Lady Pirates played both the host squad and Alvord this week.

Brief summaries of both matches follow:

Graford 40, Perrin 33

The Lady Pirates led most of the way but a late run by the hostesses gave them the win.

Perrin led 30-25 but had their serve broken. Graford used a sixpoint string, with back to back aces to close to take a 32-30 lead.

Perrin would break serve twice to get within one but the damage had been done. Graford broke serve at 34- 33 and then rolled off five straight to end the match and make things worse than they really were.

Aaliyah Brown and Erika Hernandez had single points in the early going for a 7-5 lead. A Natasha Frissell pair, aided by a Brown kill, put the lead at 12- 10. Hernandez’s three points doubled the lead to 19-13. Sophomore Kenadee Langham’s kill was followed by a serving pair to keep the advantage at 23-17.

Jessa Angelly’s pair, including an ace put Perrin up 28-21, its largest lead, but it was all for naught.

Alvord 34, Perrin 30

The Lady ‘Dogs jumped out to a 11-1 lead and never surrendered the cushion from there.

Frissell drew first blood with a point but Perrin would not lead after that. A Langham kill broke serve on the extended run.

Brown’s dink set up a comeback serving string for the Lady Pirates, who got within 10-15 on the four-point run. Perrin could mount nothing offensively but single points, except a Langham, three-point string to get within 27-32 late in the game.
