PEASTER – Jacksboro’s JV White footballers turned the ball over on their first play from scrimmage Thursday afternoon.

It would prove to be their lone mistake of the day, as the squad would score on six of their final seven possessions while holding the Greyhounds in check in what would be a 40-8 victory at Greyhound Stadium.

The White evened its record at 1-1.

After an Evan Walker punt return moved the ball into Peaster territory, the Tigers fumbled the ball away but Walker got the ball back moments later with an interception to give the visitors the ball at the ‘Hound 39.

A balanced attack led by Gavin Kennedy on the ground and a pass from Brayden Rockey to Walker set up a first down. The drive stalled before Rockey and Isaac Wesson combined on a 33-yard scoring strike. The conversion failed with just 50 seconds left in the first.

Wesson tipped a pass away to set up fourth down on the ensuing drive. The Tigers blocked a punt to set up excellent field position at the Peaster 36. Jacksboro was hurt by a false start penalty, one of several in the first half.

On fourth down, however Rockey and Wesson combined again, this time from 32 yards out for the score with 5:53 remaining in the half.

After Peaster got within 12-8, Walker gave Jacksboro some breathing room, returning the ensuing kick 80 yards down the left sideline for the score. Rockey and Wesson added the conversion to extend the lead to 20-8. Jacksboro would score again late in the half. With Kennedy leading the charge on the ground, Rockey found Walker over the middle with a 33-yard scoring toss. The conversion run failed with 1:07 to go.

Rockey’s interception with 13 seconds left closed the half on a high note.

Rockey and Walker would combine again on the opening drive of the second half, this time for a 40-yard completion down the left side for the score with 6:04 left in the third. After another Peaster turnover gave the Tigers the ball at the ‘Hound 30, Kennedy broke a run down to the three where Rockey scored from two plays later. Tayde Reeves’ conversion run ended the scoring with 2:57 left in the third.

The squad returns home to face Burkburnett Thursday at 5 p.m.

Evan Walker had a big day for the JV White team Thursday in Peaster, scoring four touchdowns in a win over Peaster.
