I got a conversation started. For me, that’s pretty good.
Last week’s column had me saying that a lot of folks didn’t realize that I do both news and sports for the paper and have since I arrived July 31, 2014. I’ve also done both at nearly every paper I’ve ever been at over this 35-year career.
I’ve had folks ask me which I like better, telling me they like whatever area they’re more interested in. Some say I’m a better sports guy but I’ve made them interested in what is going on around them (as we all should be). Others tell me they’re more news interested but like to see the local kids doing well.
I appreciate all the sentiments over the last week. I will continue to try and do my best for everyone no matter the reason you read.
Here’s a review of the news side:
Election Day is Saturday, May 1 for a number of local races. Voting will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Jack County Courthouse, Twin Lakes Activity Center, Perrin Church of Christ and Bryson Senior Center. Get out and vote if you haven’t already.
We’ve got a bit of a break right now in the sports playing because the playoffs start this coming week. We had a pretty good showing at our two regional track meets down in Whitney and Abilene in preparations for State in mid-May down at Mike Myers.
Soon we’ll have (hopefully deep) playoff runs by our baseball and softball teams. Perrin and Bryson softball were playing in Monday night for the chance to represent in the postseason. Results were not available as of press time.
May is quite possibly my busiest month with school winding up and all the playoff stuff at the same time. Bryson graduation is Friday, May 21 with Jacksboro and Perrin a week later on May 28.
I know by June I’ll be screaming for stuff to see and do.
That’s about it for this week. As always, thanks for reading.
See y’all down the road.
