JHS Thursday action

WINDTHORST _ Jacksboro split a pair of Thursday games in the tournament here, beating Gorman in the opener 10-0 and fall to district foe Holliday, 7-1.

Brief summaries of both games follow.

Jacksboro 10, Gorman 0 (four innings)

The Tigers scored in every inning against the Class A Bulldogs to get the win.Jacksboro picked up all the offense it'd need in the first.

Peyton Kinman opened with a single, stole second and scored on Lando Belcher's infield single. The next two hitters were retired.

Chris Wiggins got the win on the hill, throwing a three-hitter with nine strikeouts. His teammates gave him a lot of breathing room in the second.

Jordan Yount walked and stole second. Jackson McComis moved him to third with a single while Cody Frie drew a walk to load the cage.

Paul Shackelford's walk scored Yount with McComis plating on a shortstop's error for a 3-0 lead. A passed ball and Kasey Ray Swan's sac fly plated two more runs. The next two hitters were retired to prevent further damage.

A five-run third opened with Baylor Laake reaching third on a pair of errors and scored on a one-out McComis single. Frie walked, both him and McComis scoring on passed balls for an 8-0 lead. Kinman kept the inning alive with a two-out, one-hop double off the wall in right center.

Swan's single and a walk to Belcher filled the pond. Wiggins then aided his cause with a bloop single to score a pair of runs. A walk to Laake filled the pond once again but a strikeout prevented further damage. Gorman picked up an infield single and a walk to try and get on the board in the fourth but Wiggins' last two strikeouts ended the game on mercy rule.

Holliday 7, Jacksboro 1 (3 innings)

The squads met for the second time in less than 48 hours with a 6-run Eagle third breaking things wide open.

Jacksboro took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Frie stroked a oneout double with Wiggins singling to put runners at the corners. An errant pickoff moved allowed Frie to score. The next two hitters struck out to end the threat.

In the Tiger second, McComis beat out an infield single but was forced at second in place of Yount but a strikeout ended the inning. Holliday tied the game with a run off Yount in its second.

In the Tiger 3rd, Aaron Harmonson opened with a single , stole second but was out on a pickoff move. Holliday then struck for six runs in the third and set the Purple down in order in its fourth to end the game.
