JHS baseball loses its district opener

Wed, 03/17/2021 - 5:00 am

HOLLIDAY – Jacksboro’s non-district baseball schedule had the Tigers fielding a young team which gained valuable experience but took its lumps in many situations.

Tuesday night in the District 7-3A opener was much of the same as Jacksboro committed six errors in the field which enabled the Eagles to put together just six hits and come through with a 10-0, five-inning win at Jake Cottrell Park.

The Tigers had just one hit and a total of four baserunners in the 1:42 contest. The Purple went down in order in the first two innings until leadoff hitter Cody Frie opened the third with a walk and moved to second on Jackson McComis’ sacrifice. He was left holding the bag at third as the next two hitters grounded out. In the Jacksboro fourth, Josh Pierce opened by reaching on an error but the inning ended as the courtesy runner for Pierce was thrown out at third.

A two-out rally in the fifth fell short ad Frie drew another free pass and McComis beat out an infield single. Frie overran the bag at second and was tagged out to end the frame.

Jacksboro returned to action for Spring Break with home games Monday and Tuesday vs. Bowie and City View, respectively. Details were unavailable as of press time.
