Jacksboro sees lead zapped in 6-5 loss to Bowie

Wed, 07/15/2020 - 5:00 am

Scoring early and often is a solid way to guarantee victory.

Jacksboro’s high school summer league team did part of that July 7, scoring five first inning runs. Unfortunately, due to some base running blunders, the Purple would not score again vs. visiting Bowie. The Jackrabbits would use a pair of three run innings to overcome the Tigers and post a 6-5, four inning win at Swan Field.

Bowie was coming off a game just prior vs. Bridgeport and needed some time to recover, which Jacksboro took advantage of. Edgar Regalado opened with a single through the box into centerfield. Pinch runner Kaleem Howard showed his speed by stealing second and moving to third on a passed ball.

Cody Frie then put the Tigers on the board with a two-run homer to left. Taber Dunn drew a walk with Howard moving to third on passed balls. Jordan Yount’s grounder to second was mishandled, plating Howard for a 3-0 cushion.

An error, which brought Aaron Harmonson aboard, and a passed ball moved both runners into scoring position. Christian Mott ripped a two-run double to extend the lead… and end the scoring for Jacksboro as the next two hitters struck out followed by a groundout to first to end the inning.

A three-run Bowie first was aided by four hits before the Tigers got the last two outs back-toback to end the frame. The Purple threatened in its second with Lando Belcher and Daylan Valles each coming through with a single but not making it to second as both were caught stealing.

Regalado was hit by a pitch to keep the drive alive but pinch runner Howard, who reached third on a passed ball and a wild pitch, was retired in a rundown to end the frame.

Yount threw the last two innings, getting out of a bases loaded two out jam in the second inning. A two-run single and a throwing error on a rundown enabled Bowie to go up 6-5 after three.

Bowie set the Tigers down in the fourth to end the game on time limit.

Jacksboro plays at Swan Field Tuesday evenings at 8:30 p.m.
