Tigerettes play Holliday Tuesday at 8 in Graham

“It’s the power and the glory

It’s a war in Paradise

A Cinderella story

On a tumble of the dice.”

MINERAL WELLS – The aforementioned line from Rush’s “The Big Money” speaks volumes about Friday’s volleyball play-in game between Jacksboro and Tolar; the “money” being the fourth and final playoff spot in District 7-3A.

Tolar had the best of the fight early, winning the first two games 25-21, 25-21 and having match point at in game three 24-22 before an unexplained timeout by the Lady Rattlers turned the tide and match entirely. Jacksboro was able to rebound and take game three 27-25, hold off Tolar in a spirited game four 25-22 before pulling away in game five 15-7 to knock the Lady Rattlers from playoff contention.

The Tigerettes will face District 8-3A champ Holliday in the bi-district round Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Graham. It will be the nightcap of matches as Brock and Bowie do battle in the opener.

Looking the end of the season in the face, Jacksboro, which hadn’t been to the postseason in a number of years, came storming back and used a break of serve and an Alex Holman point to knot the game at 24. Tolar again went up one before a Trinity Tisdale kill knotted the game at 25.

Senior Carly Hart then finished the job with a pair of points, aided by a combo block from her classmates Tisdale and Leah Plaster to the delight of a large throng of Jacksboro supporters who finally had something to cheer about.

Tolar took a 5-3 lead in game four before the Tigerettes broke serve and Tisdale rolled off an eight-point string to give Jacksboro the 12-5 lead. Much like the teams all season in their matches, Tolar came storming back to knot the game at 17.

Alex Holman rolled off three straight, helped by a Carli Smith kill as the squad led 21-17. The Rattlers cut the lead in half but frontcourt work from Tisdale and Morgyn Green kept Tolar from doing anything more and Jacksboro was able to force a fifth game.

Tolar led 2-1 in the finale before a Tisdale kill tied the game and set the table for Hart, who came through with six coffin nails for the Tigerettes. Frontcourt work from Plaster and Green delighted the Tigerette faithful.

A Tisdale pair extended the lead to eight at 11-3. After Tolar had gotten within 12-7, a Holman kill broke serve for Plaster, whose pair of points, including an ace, ended the 1:51 match.

During the regular season, both teams won on the road in five games.
