HOLLIDAY – Jacksboro’s girls basketballers got off to a quick start Tuesday night but the host Lady Eagles proved to have too much in the tank, using an 11-0 run to pull away early and post a 72-37 win over the Tigerettes.

Jacksboro falls to 4-6 in District 7-3A with Holliday going to 8-2 in the loop.

After a close game in the first meeting, the Tigerettes used baskets by Rylee Mathis and Alex Holman to go up 4-0 in the first 80 seconds. The Tigerettes would then miss nine in a row from the floor.

Holliday would take advantage with the aforementioned run.

A pair of three-pointers would open the run and give Jacksboro a sign of things to come as Holliday converted six shots from beyond the arc. After more than five minutes of being shutout, Holman snapped the string with a bucket.

Jacksboro ended the quarter with a nice drive by Avery Bennett to the bucket but the Tigerettes still found themselves down 19-8 after one. Neither team could find the basket for a while in the second but Jacksboro was able to use buckets from Traci Berend and Jaci Gann to get within 27-19. With the Lady Eagles’ having their offensive wings clipped for most of the second quarter, six free throws enabled the hostesses to keep the lead in double figures.

Holliday, leading 35-21 at the half, missed its first six shots of the third but a pair of Berend baskets would keep things close. Gann’s bucket and Harlee Richardson’s three-pointer would be matched by four Payton Murray’s buckets as Holliday went up by as many as 22 late in the third.

Holman paced Jacksboro with 11 points with Berend tossing in eight. Sarah County led three Lady Eagles in double figures with 19 points for Holliday.
