Wed, 02/10/2021 - 5:00 am

HENRIETTA _This close to Valentine's Day, you hate to hear the term heartbreaker.

It really doesn't begin to describe the ending of the Tigers' game with Henrietta, the two teams locked in a four quarter battle decided on a questionable referee call that should never have been made. The subsequent free throw with 1.62 seconds left and the game tied left Jacksboro fans and coaches more than stunned in the 52-51 setback

Jacksboro is now 1-9 in District 7-3A, tied with the Bearcats for last place in the loop.

The Tigers had overcome a six-point deficit in the final three minutes, Rylan Chalmers tying the game at 51 with 27 seconds to go. Henrietta looked for the last shot, calling timeout twice to try and set something up.

A pass that went high had players from both teams jump for it and a foul; was called to the visual disbelief of both players.

The first free throw was made but the second fell short. Paul Shackelford grabbed the rebound, flipped it to Daylan Valles whose attempt was valiant but fell short.

Despite several Jacksboro offensive rebounds from Jordan Yont and Chalmers, Henrioetta got out to a 9-2 lead less than four minutes in. The Tigers held their own and using baskets by the pair got within three. Chalmers and Shackelford then had late buckets to cut the deficit to 12-11 after one.

Henrietta went back up by as many as six and maintained the lead throughout the second. Jacksboro again had an answer in the form of Landon Davenport, who scored on four straight possessions to bring the Tigers back within one.

Jacksboro closed the second shooting 70 percent for the quarter, the Tigers shooting just 34 percent for the half but finding themselves down 29-28 at the half.

Yount's three-pointer gave the Purple its first lead at 31-29 seconds into the third frame. Shackelford's three and Yount's bucket and free throws helped Jacksboro take a 44-39 lead into the fourth.

Yount led the Jacksboro charge with 16 points and 16 rebounds with Chalmers contributing 11.
