Jacksboro BB splits Saturday games
‘WINDTHORST – Much like its Thursday results, Jacksboro’s varsity baseball team split a pair of Saturday games under a fierce wind that guested at times near 60 mph.
The Tigers lost to Class 2A’s top team, Anson 8-2 while beating Gorman for the second time in three days, 16-2. Brief summaries of both games follow:
Anson 8, Jacksboro 2 The Tigers fell behind 4-0 after two and never fully recovered.
The Tigers finally got on the board in the third. Aaron Harmonson beat out a one-out single while Paul Shackelford was hit by a pitch. Shackelford was forced at second in place of Peyton Kinman.
An error allowed Harmonson to score while freshman Kasey Ray Swan drew a free pass but a groundout ended the threat.
Anson scored four more runs in the bottom of the inning but the Purple picked up another run in the top the fourth before the game was called on time limit.
Josh Pierce beat out a one-out infield single. Baylor Laake drew a walk and Jordan Yount beat out a bunt single to load the sacks.
A fielder’s choice play forced Pierce at the plate but an errant throw allowed Laake to score and moved Harmonson to second. Shackelford drew a walk to field the pond but a flyout to center prevented further damage.
Jacksboro 16, Gorman 3
The Tigers scored eight runs in both at-bats before the game was called in the middle of the third inning.
Gorman scored once in each of its at-bats. but Jacksboro took control for good in the bottom of the first. Swan reached on an error with walks to Jackson McComis and Laake filling the pond. Cody Frie’s sacrifice fly and a double steal on the play made the score 2-1.
Taber Dunn’s single made the score 3-1. Walks to Pierce and Yount again filled the sacks with walks to Harmonson and Kaleem Howard and a Swan sacrifice fly extending the lead to 6-1.
An error, which got McComis aboard plated two more runs before a groundout back to the pitcher ended the rally.
Another eight-run uprising for the Purple opened with consecutive walks to Frie, Dunn and Pierce to fill the pond. Yount’s two-run single and a passed ball extended the lead to 11-2. Harmonson and Howard both walked to keep the bases fullwidth a Swan single, and a groundout putting the lead into double figures at 13-2.
Laake being hit by a pitch and Frie drawing a walk kept the bases loaded once again. Consecutive RBI singles by Dunn, Yount and Harmonson would end the scoring as a strikeout prevented further damage.
