It’s probably a little early

I’ve always been told patience is a virtue. Many of the same people tell me the early bird gets the worm.

They’re both right, I agree with each concept … at times.

For those wondering what in creation I’m talking about, we’re within a few weeks of basketball season. With all the seasons crossing, I like to stay ahead of the game and get my schedules together quickly, so I can set up a Master schedule.

Having a Master schedule, in my mind, keeps me organized on where I need to be. With COVID and its changes, that’s important.

There will be no preseason tournaments this year, so a lot of teams will be playing Friday and Saturdays. That still won’t help for the 4-5 games in a weekend, if not more, but playing some Saturday games will provide more competition before district play come January.

Still, in some of these smaller schools coaches are doing a number of sports or waiting for other things before the schedule can be released. To be honest, I’ve seen one school’s schedule, that being Bryson.

The Cowboys and Cowgirls are playing a number of Saturday doubleheaders, which makes my life a lot easier. There’s also some play during Thanksgiving and Christmas break, so I won’t be wondering how I’m going to fill sports during the holidays which has been a concern in past years.

Jacksboro’s girls are just waiting for the district meeting to set home and away sites for the District 7-3A games according to Girls Coach Kyle Wood. With the football season going very strong, I’m figuring it’s going to be a while before I see anything for the Tiger boys.

Remember last year when the boys’ first games were during our tournament not even two weeks before Christmas? We had something like 40-42 teams before Christmas from all three high school levels.

That was fun. Tournaments were great. I sincerely hope they are not a thing of the past.

A lot of coaches want to make sure is accurate to schedule.

As soon as I see them, I’ll do what I can to get those in the paper. Because there are folks that need to do a master schedule just like me.

That’s about it for this week. As always, thanks for reading.

See y’all down the road.
