Gonna be working some long days coming up

Wed, 09/09/2020 - 5:00 am

It’s been a long day as i write this, the third of three stories. They’ll be plenty more of these to come.

With any holiday weekend, there comes a lot of work in order to get the extra day off. Our normal Monday production day becomes a Friday.

That doubles for me because I’m doing all the news and sports right now. Also many of our people that do columns and other things for us aren’t in the holiday mode.

Still, we do the best we can to get a paper out so you can have it on time on Wednesday. To accommodate our early press times, I went to a couple of sub varsity football games Thursday night.

I had planned on going to some varsity volleyball on Tuesday but with the adverse weather Tuesday afternoon, I decided to save the gas money and just stay at home on Thursday.

While the stats are’t nearly as detailed ashen I’m there, we still have scores from the matches. Appreciate my coaches hooking some Things

It’s not the first time I’ve done sub varsity or junior high football but I usually grab a few photos and leave. I went upstairs to the press box after doing my photo duties.

It’s much quieter up North (as I call it) on Thursday night games than during Friday night varsity contests. I think a lot of that is due to the food. We couldn’t get anyone from the concession stand to bring us anything, which wasn’t the case years ago at some places I’ve been where they brought is anything we wanted just so they wouldn’t have to do the announcing.

These days it’s everyone for themselves it seems. Anyway, we got through it and you’re looking at the paper.

This past Saturday will be the only Saturday I’m not working this month as I have volleyball and some other events coming down the pipe. Combined with Homecoming this Saturday, I have a lamb and goat show and possibly a pair of volleyball matches (at least one that I know of.)

Next Saturday, I have the Bailey Pippin Memorial events out in Jermyn and volleyball in Graford. Saturday the 26th, I plan on coming home from football in Vernon the night before with a Jacksboro volleyball match in Wichita Falls.

That’s about it for this week. As always, thanks for reading.

See y’all down the road.
