Finding out what busy truly is

Wed, 09/02/2020 - 5:00 am

The COVID virus has taught everyone about adjustments and being where you have to be when you have to be there.

When games first started getting cancelled, my wife and I absolutely loved spending time together and having maybe 2-3 nights apart in a month. We’d have dinner, play games, watch TV etc.

My colleague Nathan then left the paper in June so I did all the news but there was little or no sports so I was working about the same number of nights for the past few years when I split news and sports.

My wife hardly noticed as she got busier at work. She took a summer job testing in July and was also named a lead diagnostician. She tested some days at school and some days via Zoom at home which was much harder but if that’s what the parents wanted.

She was also responsible for setting up these summer testing appointments which she thought was already done. It was also at another school over by AT&T Stadium, which is way north of her school now.

She got through it okay and then we had a medical escapade with me needing a colonoscopy. Everything went fine, except my wife had a meeting while she was taking me home. They wheeled me out in a wheelchair.

I got in and my wife is looking at the laptop. I’m wondering when she was going to turn it off. She said no I have to see this 90-minute section which just started.

I told her I can’t drive home even though I thought I probably could have. She told me to hold the laptop and shut up, she had to do this.

Compound this with the fact there were no lights outside the main entrance to the hospital and you good readers can see where this is quickly going. Even though I told her there were no lights outside and we had to watch what we were doing, we were in a wreck 75 yards from the main entrance.

Fortunately no one was hurt, but we had $7,000 worth of damage done and had to get it to the dealer with the left rear wheel and tire caved in.

We were able to get it home and Heather was able to finish her meeting.

The last few weeks has even gotten us tighter as well, which is great because now I’m doing the news and the sports.

Have their been mistakes? You bet? Still trying to do what I can on both sides.

That’s about it for this week. As always, thanks for reading.

See y’all down the road.
