A few other eating ideas ...

I don’t normally run my columns online, but I felt this one was warranted.

The tour of restaurants where the football team plays continues this week. I’ve mentioned places all around the area during my travels over the last few weeks but I found a place in Dublin that I’m really interested in trying tonight.

It’s a place called Granny Clark’s on Patrick Street (Business 67) in town. The website says it’s closed and under renovation but it reopened in June and the reviews on the site have been good.

It’s a typical Texas-style joint with what looks like a good buffet, burgers (including a one pound monster with all the trimmings), steak and seafood. Prices look reasonable as well. They’re open until 9 p.m.

Dublin is roughly about 86 miles from Jacksboro and it takes about 90 minutes to get there. Happy trails getting here.

During my weekend travels out and about I found another place I‘d never been a couple miles north on the same road from the Millsap stadium where we will be next week called The Switch Cafe.

Had breakfast there this past Sunday as a place I was going to go was closed. It has a big gravel parking lot and is really quite homey on the inside.

It’s a mom and pop owned place that was fairly uncrowded for breakfast Sunday but waiting for the after church lunch rush. They also have a lunch and dinner buffet over the weekend which had beef stew, chicken and dumplings, fried pork chops and some other items on it (you could guess and probably get them right). After the buffet, you may want to try a slice of the homemade pie that co-owner Marie Helmick makes from scratch every day.

It’s just a couple of ideas for places to eat during your travels. Just a reminder that the JHS volleyball team plays Tolar for the right to go to the playoffs Friday in Mineral Wells.

Both Perrin and Bryson have qualified for the playoffs and will play next week. Perrin will play Harrold at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Windthorst while Bryson will host Forestburg Thursday at 6 p.m.

That’s about it for this week. As always, thanks for reading.

See y’all down the road.
