Wed, 12/16/2020 - 5:00 am

In a rematch of former District 7-3A foes, Brock’s girls found themselves down in the first half to host Jacksboro Dec. 8 by a many as nine. As most Eagles squad will do, however, the Lady Eagles mounted a comeback in the second half and posted a closer than it looked 36-26 win at Tiger Gym

Jacksboro slipped to 5-4 with the setback while Brock went to 3-4. Tigerette Coach Kyle Wood said he was pleased with the way his squad played overall.

“We played tough and with great effort, particularly defensively tonight,” Wood said. “There are a lot of spots to get better defensively but we did a great job of improving tonight.”

Jacksboro had troubles shooting in the second half, converting 3-20 floor attempts after getting three-pointers from Kylie Tullous, Brynn Pardue and Avery Bennett in the first quarter to help the Tigerettes take an 11-7lead.

Pardue’s second outside bomb and an Alex Holman basket gave the squad its biggest lead at 16-7. Brock, which missed 18 shots in a row, snapped the skein with a Tanna Hatchett three-pointer to help Brock get within two late in the first half. Tullous converted from outside to extend the lead to five before a late Brock basket cut the lead to three, 19-16, at the break.

The visitors tied the game early in the third. Traci Berend got the Tigerettes on the board after a nearly four-minute drought, 21-19. It would be Jacksboro’s last lead as the Eagles ended the frame on a 6-0 run, an Abby Mathis trey the lone bucket as Brock took a 25-21 lead into the final stanza.

Brock more than doubled the lead to nine at 30-21with Maddison Moudy’s bucket and three-pointer with 5:24 to go.

Jacksboro made one last gasp, getting within four on a Teagan Reynolds hoops and Berend are throw with 2:24 but it would be too late.

Tullous and padre each had six points to pace Jacksboro.
