WINDTHORST – Bryson’s volleyball team came into the Oct. 6 District 9-2A matchup with the host Trojanettes on a bit of a high, going 4-1 to start league play.

Windthorst is a volleyball juggernaut having been to State several times in recent years. It’s been a slow start for the Trojanettes, who opened the year at 1-11 but the squad appears to be on the rebound with a 25-17, 25-10, 25-17 win over the visitors.

Bryson got out to the quick start, using a pair of Tracy Hauger serving points, one thrown down by a Riley Valliant block, to take a 2-0 lead. Bryson would be knotted at five before Windthorst exerted its size and power advantage to put the visitors into an 8-17 hole.

Hauger rolled off three more points, moved along by some Valliant front court work to get within 12-17.

A Victoria Goodman point and two tallies by Valiant kept things respectable in the game one setback.

Windthorst took control early, a Goodman serving point to knot the game at three the last tie. The Trojanettes would then lead 12-3 before Bryson broke serve and then had Valliant serve two points blocked home by Rachel Robinson and Windsor Godfrey.

Windthorst then had another long serving run give the girls a 23-7 lead before a Godfrey kill broke serve. Emery Fisher when served up two points with a Goodman kill helping put one home and end the game two scoring for Bryson.

The long serving runs continued for Windthorst as the hostesses jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the finale. Hanna Perez came through with a serving point to draw within 2-7.

Windthorst went up eight before Fisher served up three to cut the deficit to 8-13. A pair of Godfrey kills kept things interesting for a while as the squads traded points. Single points by Valliant and Fisher kept things from getting out of hand and allowed Windthorst to take the win.
