BRYSON – It can be difficult for a team not to play down to the level of a lesser opponent.
Against Three Way, which is in its second year of being a high school team, Oct. 15, Bryson had problems playing up to the level which had it qualifying for the State Tournament a year ago. The Cowgirls managed to get its game together enough, needing just 53 minutes to post a 25-7, 25-12, 25-14 win at Cowgirl Gym.
Cowgirl Coach Kim Hauger said her squad did a good job at finishing but there’s still some work to be done.
“It’s hard to keep your momentum and energy up against a weak team and we have to do a much better job not playing to their tempo of the game,” Hauger said. “I got to put some girls in the game that haven’t had a lot of varsity experience and I think that’s good for them to get experience before the playoffs hit.”
Senior Kyla Jones’ 14-point run to open the match got Bryson off on the right foot. The Lady Braves, who arrived less than 10 minutes before first serve, seemed off their game to start.
Three Way did not get a single serving point the entire first game. Bryson had trouble getting anything going to finish the game like it started. Freshman Riley Valliant’s three-point run, including an ace on the finale, ended the opener.
