Cowgirls buck Three Way from Class A VB playoffs

MINERAL WELLS – There are many things you can do in 48 minutes: Watching an hour-long show on the DVR and do some grocery shopping are just a couple.

Bryson did a third Nov. 3: Vote Three Way out of the playoffs.

The District 9-A champs got out to a slow start and roared to a quick finish against their former district rivals of the last few years in a 25-12, 25-7, 25-3 rout.

The slow start, a Bryson staple this year, was mentioned by Coach Kim Hauger.

“We started slow but in that first time out I told them we can’t have this and needed to turn it around,”

Hauger offered following the match. “It was a question of stopping to their level, and wen can’t drop there.”

The Lady Braves jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Bryson broke serve. Sophomore Tracy Hauger tied the game with a pair of points. The squads traded side outs before Victoria Goodman rolled off a pair for a 6-4 Cowgirl cushion.

Three Way tied the game at six before Bryson took control of the match for good.Riley Valliant struck for three points for a 10-6 lead. Rachel Robinson added two serving points, including an ace, to go up six. Emery Fisher later picked up a serving point, aided by a Windsor Godfrey point, as the lead stayed at six and Three Way called timeout.

A five-point Godfrey string, with help from a Valliant kill and an ace put the Cowgirls up 21-10. The hideouts continued followed by a pair of Hauger points. Bryson won the game via a Robinson kill.

Hauger opened game two bound and determined not to let the slow start behoove her teammates again, staking the Blue to a 5-0 lead. A Vallaint kill aided that cause.

Allie Orr bettered hanger’s skein with a six-point run for a 12-1 lead midway through the game. Valliant displayed her offensive chops with a nine-point run, using two aces, a pair of Godfrey dinks and a Robinson kill, the Cowgirls went up 22-3.

Three Way had just two serving point in the game as part a comeback to within 16. Godfrey had broken serve to set up game point with a kill and a dink before Fisher came through with the final nail in the coffin, put home by a Goodman kill.

After a Valliant kill to open the nightcap, Hauger went on a three-point string for a 4-0 lead. Valliant again opened a string with a kill to help Goodman put down four points, including an ace, as Bryson led 9-1. Valliant’s four point runout the lead into double figures at 14-2 before serve was broken.

The teams traded side outs before Robinson strode to the serving line and finished out the match. With some help from a pair of Godfrey kills and an ace, Bryson simply let Three Way mistakes and the contest.

Bryson moved on Friday evening to face District 11 champ Evant in Stephenville.
