Cowboy BB close with win

Wed, 05/05/2021 - 5:00 am

BRYSON – Zander Tinney struck out seven and the Bryson bats struck early and often to help the Cowboys close the 2021 season on a high note with a 12-2 win over Huckabay Tuesday.

Tinney showed the Indians what kind of day it would be early, striking out two in the first inning. Bryson looked to take a first-inning lead as Grayson Allen reached third after a single, stolen base and error but the next two hitters were retired to keep the game scoreless.

A seven-run Bryson second opened with a single by Justin Justus, who was forced out in place of Jackson Eberle. Senior Ragen Register and Colton Hughes were both hit by pitches to load the bases.

Freshman Isaiah Garcia stroke a two-run single to get Bryson on the board. With two gone, a wild pitch plated Hughes while Tanner Burby walked to fill the sacks.

Landon Stephens brought all three home with a double to extend the lead to 6-0. A shortstop’s error plated Stephens but Justus was retired at second to end the frame.

The Cowboys put the lead into double figures with a four-run third. Walks to Eberle and Register opened the frame while a one-out Garcia single loaded the sacks.

With two gone, singles by Allen and Burby and a pair of errors brought home the four runs. The Indians struck for single runs in each of the next two frames to cut the deficit to nine.

Bryson ended the 1:40 contest early with a single run in its fifth. Tinney opened with a walk while singles by Allen and Burby allowed him to score and end the game on mercy rule.
