Bryson summer hoopsters lose pair

Wed, 05/25/2022 - 12:00 am

Bryson’s boys basketball team competed in summer league games here May 17 against Midway and Boyd.

Midway 48, Bryson 24

The Falcons used a 9-0 first half run and their speed to overcome an early Cowboy lead and held on for the win.

Evan Ford’s three-pointers helped tie the game for Bryson after an early deficit. Jameson Pierce had an inside bucket as did Ford as Bryson led by four. Midway’s speed kicked in during a 9-0 string as the Falcons took control for good.

Sophomore Tyler Cotter ended the run with a bucket but Midway closed the 18-minute running clock half on a 14-4 run, Bryson’s points coming from Pablo Prenushi and another Ford hoop. The Falcons led 29-16 at the half.

A pair of Ford three-pointers sandwiched around a Prenushi basket accounted for all the Cowboys points in the half. Ford had 16 points, including four threes to pace Bryson.

Boyd 80, Bryson 33

The Cowboys had an early lead in the nightcap as well but a timeout aided the Yellowjackets and put them on their way to the victory.

Incoming freshman Caleb Allen had six early points with Ford and Pierce aiding the cause to get out to an 11-4 lead less than six minutes into the fray. Over the next three minutes, Boyd went on a 12-4 skein to take its first lead at 16-15 with 9:20 left in the first half.

Cotter and Ford closed the half strong with a combined 11 points, but Boyd used its ability to get down low for offensive rebounds and easy baskets to take control with a 45-25 halftime lead.

Boyd opened the final 18 minutes on an 8-0 string in the first three minutes and change. Cotter ended the run and had six of the Cowboys’ eight second half points with Allen adding the other pair.

Cotter had 11 points and Allen 10 to pace Bryson.
