BRYSON – Confidence in yourself is a wonderful thing and necessary for success in anything you do.

Bryson shot just 18 percent from the floor in a 49-23 setback to visiting Lingleville. Cowgirl Coach Rusty Jones, coming off a district title in 2020, graduated a lot of seniors and is rebuilding from within.

“These girls need to develop the intensity to play at the varsity level,” Jones, in his second year at the helm, said. “They don’t have the confidence to play out there right now.”

Victoria Goodman had a strong start with a basket and free throws helping the squad to an early lead. Sophomore Riley Valliant added another bucket to help the hosts take a 6-5 lead.

The Cowgirls went ice cold in the second quarter shooting 0-7. The Cowgirls went to the free throws and kept things closed with Valliant and Tracy Hauger converting from the free throw stripe to keep things close.

Lingleville led by 19-11 at the half and then doubled its offensive production in the third, part of it being Bryson ice cold shooting. Valiant converting with 4:40 left for the first Bryson points which enabled Lingleville to move the lead into double figures and take a 39-15 into the fourth stanza.

Sophomore Allie Orr had a strong finish for Brysoncoming through with the last three Cowgirl buckets. Valliant opened the quarter with a basket.

Bryson shot 4-8 in the final frame.

Jones said even with many of the early stumbles, the team can’t get deterred.

“Can’t get hurt if things go wrong,” Jones said. “They’re a solid bunch that has the potential to definitely get there.

Valiant had nine to lead Bryson with Orr adding six, Godfrey the early five points.
