Bryson loses in Nocona

Wed, 10/05/2022 - 11:53 am

NOCONA – For the second time this year, Bryson’s volleyball team suffered a loss to Class 2A Nocona, 25-23, 25-16, 25-14, Friday, Sept. 30. Bryson used serving points from Tracy Hauger and Emery Fisher to get out to a 5-1 lead in the opener, aided by front court work from Riley Valliant. A Hanna Perez kill and Zoey Morrow’s ace kept the lead at 11-8.

Nocona went up 1211 and began to pull away with a four-point run from freshman Ava Johnson at 20-14. Valliant’s kill broke serve and the senior followed with a point to get within 16-20. Morgan Eberle continued the comeback with a serving pair to draw within 19-22.

Kills by Hauger and Perez and a Morrow pair of aces brought Bryson within 23-24 but the squad would get no closer.

The Cowgirls fell in a 10-3 hole in game two. Morrow brought the visitors back within two at 8-10 with a four-point string of her own.

Bryson would get no closer as a single Allie Orr point and Fisher’s pair of tallies would be all the offense the squad could muster.

A pair of Valliant kills and a block would help Bryson break serve but the squad could get nothing going offensively. Single tallies from Hauger and Fisher, which were put down by kills from Valliant and Kaylie Sherrin, were the only offense the Cowgirls could get going.

Bryson played at Alvord Tuesday (details not available as of press time), and remains on the road Saturday to play at Newcastle.
