POOLVILLE – The host Monarchs jumped out to an 11-0 lead on Bryson but the Cowboys made things interesting late in a 14-8 setback.
Both teams agreed to play a full seven innings, which seemed to ignite the visitors who got things rolling in the top of the sixth frame. One out walks to Jameson Pierce and Ford got things started. Pierce stole a pair of bases and eventually scored as Ford got into a rundown.
A first baseman’s error allowed Justus aboard with a wild pitch moving Ford and Justus into scoring position. Two more wild pitches enabled the pair to score and cut the lead to 11-3. Those wild pitches were part of walks to both Hearne and Allen.
Walks to Ty McCormick and Kevin Martin brought Hearne home with a Nate Jackson groundout ending the inning with a five-run maximum.
The Monarchs got three runs back in its sixth off Justus, who also struck out the side in the process.
Bryson opened a three-run seventh with an error which allowed David Twarzik aboard. A walk to Pierce and a Ford single loaded the sacks.
A walk to Justus plated Twarzik with Hearne brining home two runs with a double. A solid throw home cut down Justus at the plate on the play.
McCormick drew a two-out walk but was thrown out at second to end the 2:53 game.
Bryson returns home to face Millsap in its season finale July 26.
